Alexandrite is a rare stone from the Chrysoberyl mineral family that exhibits sharp change of color. As a variety of chrysoberyl, alexandrite represents a rare cahnge of greenish Blue to Purplish red. The colour of alexandrite has a nerly equal transmission of red and blue-green portions from the colour specturms. Padparadscha is a beautiful pinkish-orange color, however retailers sell rich orange colored sapphires as padparadscha.
