Alexandrite

Alexandrite is a rare stone from the Chrysoberyl mineral family that exhibits sharp change of color. This highly valued gemstone is used in crystal healing therapies and possesses strong metaphysical powers. As a variety of chrysoberyl, alexandrite represents a rare cahnge of greenish Blue to Purplish red. The colour of alexandrite has a nerly equal transmission of red and blue-green portions from the colour specturms. The colour and its intensity depend on the spectral strength of light source to which it is exposed.

Padparadscha

Padparadscha is a beautiful pinkish-orange color, however retailers sell rich orange colored sapphires as padparadscha. This is misleading, as true padparadscha displays a delicate mixture of orange and pink. Quality stones will have a uniform, pure pink/ orange color and will be a lot more expensive. Padparadscha is the only variety of corundum other than ruby that is given its own name. Usually, different varieties of corundum are referred to as a particular color of sapphire.

Spinel

Spinels are quite valuable and expensive. The price per carat varies depending on the type and color of spinel. Red, cobalt blue, hot pink, and fiery orange are the most valuable colors. Faceted spinels of all kinds hold more value than many precious stones.
